Death Comes to Pemberley

Death Comes to PemberleyDeath Comes to Pemberley by P.D. James

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I found this book delightful. The story took me back to some of my favorite characters of all time. I liked glimpsing into the lives of of Elizabeth and Jane after they were married. The author did a good job and keeping the personalities of the original characters while adding a plot twist. Lydia is still the same child like adult most of us feel sorry for and Wickham is still his infamous, vile, slimy self, which makes this story all the better. This book has a twist that I didn’t see coming and left my jaw on the floor. So if you are a fan of Jane Austen, or just like to travel back in time this is a good murder mystery book with some beloved characters. Happy reading my friends.

Book Summary:
The world is classic Jane Austen. The mystery is vintage P.D. James.

The year is 1803, and Fitzwilliam Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet have been married for six years. There are now two handsome and healthy sons in the nursery, Elizabeth’s beloved sister Jane and her husband Bingley live nearby and the orderly world of Pemberley seems unassailable. But all this is threatened when, on the eve of the annual autumn ball, the guests are preparing to retire for the night when a chaise appears, rocking down the path from Pemberley’s wild woodland. As it pulls up, Lydia Wickham – Elizabeth Bennet’s younger, unreliable sister – stumbles out screaming that her husband has been murdered.

Two great literary minds – master of suspense P.D. James and literary icon Jane Austen – come together in Death Comes to Pemberley, a bestselling historical crime fiction tribute to Pride and Prejudice. Conjuring the world of Elizabeth Bennet and Mark Darcy and combining the trappings of Regency British society with a classic murder mystery, James creates a delightful mash-up that will intrigue any Janeite.

From the bestselling author of The Murder Room, Children of Men and A Certain Justice, comes a wonderful mixture of the nation’s greatest romance and best-loved crime fiction. In 2013, this novel was adapted as a miniseries by the BBC, starring Matthew Rhys as Darcy, Anna Maxwell Martin as Elizabeth Bennet and Jenna Coleman as Lydia Wickham.

This story was everything cozy and thrilling as a good cup of dark roast coffee. I love the main character Nell. She comes from a past that has knocked her down a few times, but each time she got back up stronger and smarter. But what I love about her the most is that even after all she’s been through she’s still able to love and be loved. Also, it helps that her destiny was revealed to her and the small island of Three Sisters is just the place she needs to be.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Sometimes you just need a good old fashion heartfelt, warm your toes book. And this book delivered. It wasn’t a snuggle down, get cozy in a blanket heartfelt book though. This book delt with issues. From when a family of three sisters moved out west in with a wagon to train, to the aftermath of a massacre, to finding hope, strength, and courage to move on from the tragedies of life. The best part about this book is that it’s a trilogy and there’s one more after this! Happy readying my friends.

Wicked Business (Lizzy & Diesel, #2)

Wicked Business (Lizzy & Diesel, #2)Wicked Business by Janet Evanovich
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The story and characters just keeps getting better and better! Carl the pet monkey is a riot! I like how the cat doesn’t really have a name, and all the sass of the charachters expecially Lizzy! I couldn’t help but laugh in some places an cringe in others. Overall, if you’re looking for a quick, funny read thats full of over the top, not even relatable characters than this book is for you! I can’t wait to read the next book!

Book Summary:

Whether it’s monkey business, funny business or getting down to business, Janet Evanovich’s Lizzy and Diesel series proves that there’s no business like Wicked Business
Lizzy Tucker’s once normal life as a pastry chef in Salem, Massachusetts, turns upside down as she battles both sinister forces and an inconvenient attraction to her unnaturally talented but off-limits partner, Diesel.

When Harvard University English professor and dyed-in-the-wool romantic Gilbert Reedy is mysteriously murdered and thrown off his fourth-floor balcony, Lizzy and Diesel take up his twenty-year quest for the Luxuria Stone, an ancient relic believed by some to be infused with the power of lust. Following clues contained in a cryptic nineteenth-century book of sonnets, Lizzy and Diesel tear through Boston catacombs, government buildings, and multimillion-dollar residences. On their way they’ll leave behind a trail of robbed graves, public disturbances, and general mayhem.

Diesel’s black sheep cousin, Gerwulf Grimoire, also wants the Stone. His motives are far from pure, and what he plans on doing with the treasure, no one knows…but Lizzy Tucker fears she’s in his crosshairs. Never far and always watching, Grimoire has a growing, vested interest in the cupcake-baker-turned-finder-of-lost-things. As does another dangerous and dark opponent in the hunt – a devotee of lawlessness and chaos, known only as Anarchy.

Treasures will be sought, and the power of lust will be unmistakable as Lizzy and Diesel attempt to stay ahead of Anarchy, Grimoire, and his medieval minion, Hatchet, in this ancient game of twisted riddles and high-stakes hide-and-seek.

Shadow Reaper (Shadow, #2)Shadow Reaper by Christine Feehan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Wow, this story is not what I expected. This story is intense. I had to put the book down a few times just so I could catch my breath and think about what I just read. Ricco’s story is different from his brother’s. For me this book is the best in the series so far! I can’t wait for the next one!

Erased: A Dark Romantic Thriller

Erased: A Dark Romantic ThrillerErased: A Dark Romantic Thriller by Sansa Rayne
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I honestly have no clue on how to review this book. I can say it’s really good and it has stretched my boundaries on reading Erotica, but that won’t do it justice. This book is different from other books I’ve read within this genre. The characters are very likable and I honestly LOVE Gabe even though I think he could have been a better person. Marla is kick ass and I love her take-no-shit attitude. I felt that she went through what she did but happy at the outcome of it all. However, with all that said, it’s a dark romance and some scenes left me unable to read more for a bit. Overall the story line is great and the characters I actually felt like they were real people. If you’re into dark romance/erotica go get this book!

Book Summary:
“Resist or obey. Those are my choices.”

MARLA

Alone at a bar, recently fired from my job and about to move, no one will notice that I’ve gone missing, and my abductors know it. Smuggled to a secluded facility in the mountains, locked in a cell and stripped of my dignity, they’ve threatened me with a fate worse than death. They aim to break my will. They plan to erase me.

My captors are vicious monsters, except for one: the doctor, Gabriel. He urges me to accept their control and spare myself months, or even years, of pain and torment. Yet his merciful demeanor hides a dark, burning secret. Smoldering and mysterious, I’m drawn to him and his talk of submission. He may be my best shot at escape, but I hunger for far more.

With Gabriel’s help, the others will pay for what they’ve done to me. They wanted a toy, but they’ve woken a terror…

GABRIEL

If I’d known the truth about Halloran Asylum, I would have burned it to the ground long ago. Now I’m an accessory to unspeakable crimes, and no one will ever believe my story. For years I made peace with fate, but after a violent episode pushes me to the edge, I swore never to let them harm anyone else. Now they’ve taken another, and I can’t let it go.

I need to make Marla understand her strength and resolve will only cause her greater suffering. At first, training her is just a way of buying time, but her response to my touch, my command, drives me wild. I have to have her, but standing in my way is a horrid truth that could cost me her trust. If that happens, we’ll both be lost, trapped in this place forever.

I don’t care. I’ll risk everything for Marla, even if it means letting out the beast within…

Publisher’s note: “Erased” is a dark, romantic thriller with erotic content, no cliffhangers, no cheating and a HEA. It contains material some may find disturbing. Reader discretion is advised.
