Irish Meadows (Courage to Dream #1)

Irish Meadows (Courage to Dream #1)Irish Meadows by Susan Anne Mason
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was such a heartwarming story. I found myself more than once thinking about what life would be like back in early 1900’s. This story follows the O’Leary family and their struggles to survive and keep their way of life. The two O’Leary daughters are coming of age to be married and only want to find happiness, but trouble finds them and they have to make some hard choices. Do they obey their father or follow their hearts? If you’re into Christine Fiction and a bit of romance then this is the book for you. It’ll make your heart smile.

Book Summary:
Irish immigrant James O’Leary has spent his life building Irish Meadows into a thriving horse farm and is not about to let hard economic times threaten its success. He intends for his daughters to marry prosperous men–ones who will secure the family’s rightful place in society, and at the same time, guarantee the future of Irish Meadows. Both girls, however, have different visions for their futures.

Brianna and Colleen O’Leary know their father expects them to marry well. Yet despite his wishes, Brianna, the quieter sister, dreams of attending college. Vivacious Colleen, meanwhile, is happy to marry–as long as her father’s choice meets her exacting standards. When stable hand Gilbert Whelan returns from college and distant family member Rylan Montgomery stops in on his way to the seminary in Boston, the two men quickly complicate everyone’s plans. It will take every ounce of courage for both sisters to follow their hearts. And even if they do, will they inevitably find their dreams too distant to reach?

Treasured Grace (Heart of the Frontier #1)

Treasured Grace (Heart of the Frontier #1)Treasured Grace by Tracie Peterson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was wanting to read a nice heart warming story where everything is perfect and everyone lives happily every after. You can say I was surprised when this book wasn’t what I was expecting! It held me captivated from page one and I found myself sneaking reading time to finish it. The main characters of the story had to face a lot of heartache and hardships while on the wagon train west. They had to over come their troubles and find a way to trust in a God who allowed evil things to happen to them and the others. I don’t want to say more or I’d give out spoilers, but it’s a must read if you’re into stories about the wagon train and Oregon Trail!. I can’t wait for this series to continue.

Book Summary:
Tracie Peterson Begins Compelling New Series Set on the 1840s Frontier

Grace Martindale has known more than her share of hardship. After her parents died, raising her two younger sisters became her responsibility. A hasty marriage to a minister who is heading to the untamed West seemed like an opportunity for a fresh start, but a cholera outbreak along the wagon trail has left Grace a widow in a very precarious position.

Having learned natural remedies and midwifery from her mother, Grace seeks an opportunity to use her skills for the benefit of others. So when she and her sisters arrive at the Whitman mission in “Oregon Country,” she decides to stay rather than push on.

With the help of Alex Armistead, a French-American fur trapper, Grace begins to provide care for her neighbors, including some of the native populace. But not everyone welcomes her skills–or her presence–and soon Grace finds herself and those she loves in more danger than she imagined possible.

Chivalrous (Valiant Hearts #2)

Chivalrous (Valiant Hearts, #2)Chivalrous by Dina L. Sleiman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Wow! This is a great story! I found myself wanting to just finish it in one sitting but life kind of had it own plans. This story is about Allen and how he sets off on his own. He finds himself in a new land with new friends, but along the way he finds out what it means to become a just and fair knight. There might even be a little romance to come his way by a fierce lady named Gwen. I can’t say to much or I’d spoil the book for you. So go out there and read this book! I can’t wait to dig into the third one!

However, with the dust bowl going on sometimes god fearing folks might just have to rely on someone who is not so pure but has a heart of gold. This is just a nice, good hearted read, and if you’re looking for a book to uplift you then this is it. Nothing is impossible and even those with a bad past can have a great future!

I love this book! I’m glad I got picked this ARC title out. I’ve been describing this book to my friends as a female Robin Hood story, even though it much more than that. I love the lead character and how strong she is. Being the only survivors of a village that was burned to the ground Lady Merry lead a rag tag group of children into the forest. Doing her best, she taught the children how to hunt, gather, fight, hide, and survive in the forest. Now I can’t say anymore or I’ll just spoil the book. So go read it if you like. I can’t wait for the second book!
