Top Secret Twenty-One (Stephanie Plum, #21)

Top Secret Twenty-One (Stephanie Plum, #21)Top Secret Twenty-One by Janet Evanovich

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The thing about over the top story-lines and characters is that sometimes it keeps my interest so much that I can’t put the book down. In this case, I was not able to turn off the audio-book! Stephanie Plum is a sassy, smartass bounty hunter that’s just has no filter. Seriously! She doesn’t have one! This story had me bursting out in laughter, and then whispering “Oh my goodness, she didn’t just say this” or “she didn’t just do that!” And don’t even get me started on LuLu! I know a few people like her. Over all this story is good. I like the fact that I was able to pick it up and not have to read the other 20 books in the series to figure out what was going on. If you like over the top, wild, sassy, smartassy characters then this is the book for you! Happy reading my friends.

Book Summary:

Catch a professional assassin: top priority. Find a failure-to-appear and collect big bucks: top score. How she’ll pull it all off: top secret.

Trenton, New Jersey’s favorite used-car dealer, Jimmy Poletti, was caught selling a lot more than used cars out of his dealerships. Now he’s out on bail and has missed his date in court, and bounty hunter Stephanie Plum is looking to bring him in. Leads are quickly turning into dead ends, and all too frequently into dead bodies. Even Joe Morelli, the city’s hottest cop, is struggling to find a clue to the suspected killer’s whereabouts. These are desperate times, and they call for desperate measures. So Stephanie is going to have to do something she really doesn’t want to do: protect former hospital security guard and general pain in her behind Randy Briggs. Briggs was picking up quick cash as Poletti’s bookkeeper and knows all his boss’s dirty secrets. Now Briggs is next on Poletti’s list of people to put six feet under.

To top things off, Ranger—resident security expert and Stephanie’s greatest temptation—has been the target of an assassination plot. He’s dodged the bullet this time, but if Ranger wants to survive the next attempt on his life, he’ll have to enlist Stephanie’s help and reveal a bit more of his mysterious past.

Death threats, highly trained assassins, highly untrained assassins, and Stark Street being overrun by a pack of feral Chihuahuas are all in a day’s work for Stephanie Plum. The real challenge is dealing with her Grandma Mazur’s wild bucket list. A boob job and getting revenge on Joe Morelli’s Grandma Bella can barely hold a candle to what’s number one on the list—but that’s top secret.

Book Summary:
#1 New York Times bestselling author John C. Maxwell can teach you how to turn any situation into a winning experience.
No one wins at everything they try. But any setback, whether professional or personal, can become a step forward with the right tools and mindset to turn loss into a gain. Drawing on nearly 50 years of leadership experience, Maxwell provides a roadmap for winning by examining the eleven elements that constitute the “DNA” of people who succeed in the face of problems, failure, and losses. Learning is not easy during down times. It takes discipline to do the right thing when something goes wrong. As John Maxwell often points out, experience itself isn’t the best teacher; evaluating, understanding, and growing from your experience is. By examining how that process works, you can learn how to take risks and tackle challenges with a successful person’s outlook. Death Comes to Pemberley

Death Comes to PemberleyDeath Comes to Pemberley by P.D. James

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I found this book delightful. The story took me back to some of my favorite characters of all time. I liked glimpsing into the lives of of Elizabeth and Jane after they were married. The author did a good job and keeping the personalities of the original characters while adding a plot twist. Lydia is still the same child like adult most of us feel sorry for and Wickham is still his infamous, vile, slimy self, which makes this story all the better. This book has a twist that I didn’t see coming and left my jaw on the floor. So if you are a fan of Jane Austen, or just like to travel back in time this is a good murder mystery book with some beloved characters. Happy reading my friends.

Book Summary:
The world is classic Jane Austen. The mystery is vintage P.D. James.

The year is 1803, and Fitzwilliam Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet have been married for six years. There are now two handsome and healthy sons in the nursery, Elizabeth’s beloved sister Jane and her husband Bingley live nearby and the orderly world of Pemberley seems unassailable. But all this is threatened when, on the eve of the annual autumn ball, the guests are preparing to retire for the night when a chaise appears, rocking down the path from Pemberley’s wild woodland. As it pulls up, Lydia Wickham – Elizabeth Bennet’s younger, unreliable sister – stumbles out screaming that her husband has been murdered.

Two great literary minds – master of suspense P.D. James and literary icon Jane Austen – come together in Death Comes to Pemberley, a bestselling historical crime fiction tribute to Pride and Prejudice. Conjuring the world of Elizabeth Bennet and Mark Darcy and combining the trappings of Regency British society with a classic murder mystery, James creates a delightful mash-up that will intrigue any Janeite.

From the bestselling author of The Murder Room, Children of Men and A Certain Justice, comes a wonderful mixture of the nation’s greatest romance and best-loved crime fiction. In 2013, this novel was adapted as a miniseries by the BBC, starring Matthew Rhys as Darcy, Anna Maxwell Martin as Elizabeth Bennet and Jenna Coleman as Lydia Wickham.

Escape from Camp 14: One Man’s Remarkable Odyssey from North Korea to Freedom in the West

Escape from Camp 14: One Man's Remarkable Odyssey from North Korea to Freedom in the WestEscape from Camp 14: One Man’s Remarkable Odyssey from North Korea to Freedom in the West by Blaine Harden
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a good book to listen too. I don’t know if I’d have read it but listening to it was good. The story of Shin is absolutely inspiring, and sad at the same time. Him being born into a work camp and never knowing the outside, until one day he meets another prisoner. His escape is truly one of luck. If he is the only one to escape then it was a no less a miracle. The atrocities that the people of the camps face and having three generations pay the price for what 1 person did in my opinion is pure evil. These camps are still here today and the people are still suffering. This book is not that well written, the flow kept being disrupted but the story itself is good.

Book Summary:
North Korea is isolated and hungry, bankrupt and belligerent. It is also armed with nuclear weapons. Between 150,000 and 200,000 people are being held in its political prison camps, which have existed twice as long as Stalin’s Soviet gulags and twelve times as long as the Nazi concentration camps. Very few born and raised in these camps have escaped. But Shin Donghyuk did.

In Escape from Camp 14, acclaimed journalist Blaine Harden tells the story of Shin Dong-hyuk and through the lens of Shin’s life unlocks the secrets of the world’s most repressive totalitarian state. Shin knew nothing of civilized existence-he saw his mother as a competitor for food, guards raised him to be a snitch, and he witnessed the execution of his own family. Through Harden’s harrowing narrative of Shin’s life and remarkable escape, he offers an unequaled inside account of one of the world’s darkest nations and a riveting tale of endurance, courage, and survival.

Keeper of Souls (The Faith Healer’s Daughters Book 3)

Keeper of Souls (The Faith Healer's Daughters Book 3)Keeper of Souls by Sheila English
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Bravo Sheila! This is an epic end to a great series! I was enthralled from the very first page. I honestly had a hard time putting this book down to do real life things, like work, cook, clean, ect…. There’s a saying that says something like, “you know it’s a good book when you turn the last page and you feel like you’ve lost a friend.” Well I’ve just lost six friends! But more so Elizabeth and Cole. Their characters were often misunderstood throughout the first two books, but their story is simply amazing! Their struggles and issues from their past made them strong enough to face their future turmoils and greatest foe. I wish I could give spoilers but I just can’t! Just know this book is full of action, forgiveness, love, and magic. Go get this book once it comes out, and if you haven’t read the first two go get them! You won’t be disappointed. Happy reading my friends!

Sapphique (Incarceron #2)

Sapphique (Incarceron, #2)Sapphique by Catherine Fisher

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a great book. I liked it better than Incarceron, because it tells the ending of a great adventure story. The King has stopped time, and forbade the practice of science, and hidden a massive living prison in plain view. However, not everyone knows where or what the prison is. Claudia and Finn must now find a way to save not only the outside world from the Queen and the imposter Prince, but also save their loved ones from the ever vengeful, living prison of Incarceron.

Dance Upon the Air (Three Sisters Island, #1)

Dance Upon the Air (Three Sisters Island, #1)Dance Upon the Air by Nora Roberts
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This story was everything cozy and thrilling as a good cup of dark roast coffee. I love the main character Nell. She comes from a past that has knocked her down a few times, but each time she got back up stronger and smarter. But what I love about her the most is that even after all she’s been through she’s still able to love and be loved. Also, it helps that her destiny was revealed to her and the small island of Three Sisters is just the place she needs to be.
