Dark Wolf (Spirit Wild, #1)

Dark Wolf (Spirit Wild, #1)Dark Wolf by Kate Douglas
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I got this as an ARC book over a year ago from NetGalley.com and I just finally was able to pick it up and read it. It was an okay read, not the worst and not the best. The storyline is about a shapeshifting girl who not only runs an international company for her pack but also finds love in the wrong place. This book is action packed, full of love, sex, meyhem, and murder! Read at your own will. I hoped you will like it better than I did.

Book Summary:
Sebastian Xenakis is still coming into his power as a wizard. He can shapeshift by magical means and runs as a wolf using the power he draws from the elements. But young women are dying—raped by a human and then slaughtered by a wolf. Suspicion falls on the shapeshifting Chanku, but Sebastian wonders if he might somehow be guilty of the crimes.

Then he meets Lily Cheval, the uncrowned princess of the powerful Chanku, and realizes he will do whatever it takes to clear his name and win her love. But evil walks where Sebastian goes, and there are mysteries neither Lily nor her father, the powerful wizard, Anton Cheval, cannot unravel. Is Sebastian the perfect mate for Lily, or is he instead, one she should fear?

What precious story! I love reading this to my son. This story is about a little boy and his dragon. Although it’s a short read it doesn’t take away from the storyline and is worth reading over and over again.

The Magicians’ Guild (The Black Magician Trilogy #1)

The Magicians' Guild (Black Magician, #1)The Magicians’ Guild by Trudi Canavan
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I’m not sure what to think about this book. I’m just lost. It was an okay book, some parts were good and some parts where just blah. However, it is an interesting story line that is full of magick and mayhem. I think I’ll continue to listen to this series and see where it takes me.

Book Summary:
“We should expect this young woman to be more powerful than our average novice, possibly even more powerful than the average magician.”

This year, like every other, the magicians of Imardin gather to purge the city of undesirables. Cloaked in the protection of their sorcery, they move with no fear of the vagrants and miscreants who despise them and their work-—until one enraged girl, barely more than a child, hurls a stone at the hated invaders…and effortlessly penetrates their magical shield.

What the Magicians’ Guild has long dreaded has finally come to pass. There is someone outside their ranks who possesses a raw power beyond imagining, an untrained mage who must be found and schooled before she destroys herself and her city with a force she cannot yet control.

I love when a book captures my attention so much I don’t want to put it down. This is one of those books. Even though it’s the second book in the series, it’s the most attention getting which makes me hopeful that the third book will be even better!

soon be dead if he does not gain the knowledge of how to control
them.” Alone among all the novices in the Magicians’ Guild, only
Sonea comes from lowly beginnings. Yet she has won powerful
allies—including Lord Dannyl, newly promoted to Guild Ambassador. But
Dannyl must now depart for the Elyne court, leaving Sonea at the
mercy of the lies and malicious rumors her enemies are busy spreading

Akkarin’s long-abandoned research into ancient magical knowledge is
setting him on an extraordinary journey fraught with unanticipated
peril—as he moves ever-closer to a future both wondrous . .. and

Butterfly Lane (Firefly Hollow #2)

Butterfly Lane (Firefly Hollow, #2)Butterfly Lane by T.L. Haddix
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Hmm…. What to say about this book? I think I should have read the first book to the series first, that would have helped with a lot of questions I’ve had throughout this book. Other than that, it was a nice, smooth read. The story line was good, once I got the gist of the main characters past. Some of the book had me guessing at things because it was alluding to certain paranormal abilities, but once those were stated, I understood it. Overall, it was a good read and I will be reading the first book to the series. I got this book as an ARC from Netgalley.

Book Summary:
Genre: Romance with paranormal elements.
Book Two in the Firefly Hollow Series.

When Zanny Franks Campbell walks in on her husband kissing another woman, she’s devastated but not surprised. She’s known something was wrong for a while but hasn’t had the courage to find out what. Now the ugly truth is coming out, and she isn’t sure she believes John’s protestations of innocence, no matter how much she wants to.

John hates himself for hurting Zanny. Even though the situation she walked in on wasn’t what it appeared to be, no matter how hard he tries to convince her he still wants to be married, she isn’t listening. She knows he hasn’t been fully honest with her about the intimate problems they’re facing, and until he is, the wounds between them will never heal.

With both of them hurting, finding middle ground where they can work things out turns into a struggle Zanny isn’t sure she’s able to fight. And unless John comes clean and tells her what he’s hiding, moving forward just isn’t an option. Until she believes he won’t hurt her again, she can’t take that risk.
